Four members of Balhousie Care Group staff up for prizes
Four members of staff at Balhousie Care Group have been nominated for top awards.
The group have all been shortlisted for prizes at the annual Scottish Care Awards, which will be dished out on November 15 in Glasgow.
Ben Haddow, head chef at Balhousie Luncarty Care Home, has been shortlisted for the emerging talent award, recognising individuals who are new to their role but have become a shining example to others.
He actually started out at the Luncarty home as a domestic in the laundry team, and kept up cooking as a hobby before impressing with his culinary skills. Many relatives request to eat alongside the residents to sample his dishes because they are so good.
Lizzy McNielage, head chef at Balhousie Rumbling Bridge Care Home, has also been shortlisted - for the nutrition and eating well award.
This category aims to recognise a ‘whole home approach’to food and nutrition, and Lizzy has taken on a number of initiatives such as‘round the world dishes’- only last week residents enjoyed South African inspired meals such as mince bobotie.
Lavinia Tanu, a carer from Balhousie Pitlochry Care Home, is also nominated for carer of the year, and operations dementia manager Yvonne Mason is up for the management and leadership award.
Jill Kerr, chief executive officer at Balhousie Care Group, said:“Across Balhousie Care Group, there is a reason we call our staff‘everyday heroes’.
“Seeing such a diverse cross section of our team shortlisted for Scottish Care Awards is fantastic and highlights our commitment to providing the very best care in all aspects of our care provision, from delicious meals for our residents to having an outstanding dementia strategy to delivering exceptional care across our 25 homes on a daily basis. The nominations are very well deserved and we wish all our finalists luck for the awards on November 15.”
