Back to school for High’s first pupils Reunion drew ex-students from all over the world

-

Over 100 people joined together to reminisce about the good old days at Perth High School over the weekend.

The first ever year to be taught at the new Perth High School building on Oakbank Road celebrate their 60th birthdays this year - and it was decided to hold a school reunion to celebrate.

Former pupils and teachers from all corners of the globe came together at the Black Watch Castle and Museum in Perth on Saturday, October 5 for the school reunion.

Steve Bright, one of the organisers of the reunion, said: “It was excellent, the reunion was far, far better than we expected or hoped for.

“There was a full house as over 110 people came out in the end, and 14 teachers came too, which was amazing because we didn’t know how many would still be around.

“Everyone really enjoyed themselves and it was a huge success.”

Steve, along with seven others, had spent over a year planning the school reunion.

Everyone was given a lanyard to wear with their old school photo and their name on it to jog people’s memories.

He continued: “It was lovely, we got loads of old class photos and a slideshow on the night as well.

“There was a bar and music from the 1970s which was very appropriate - but the main event was talking and catching up with people.

“We did worry it would be a room full of people not speaking to each other, but it was quite the opposite no ice breaking was needed, everyone just started chatting away and reliving old times.

“There was an amazing amount of people still living in Perth and the surrounding areas, which was lovely to see.

“One came over from Ireland, and another two from France, and then one couple came from North Carolina in the States.

“Another made his way over with his wife from Canada, and then one even came all the way from Outer Mongolia just to come to the reunion, so they really did come from all corners of the globe.”

Steve added: “I had been away from Perth for 15 years and when I returned two years ago, I got in touch with my old friends and realised we were all turning 60 in 2019.

“We were the first firstyear class in the current high school location on Oakbank Road - before that it was down where the grammar school is now.

“I went back to my friend and suggested we organise a reunion, and it all kicked off from there.

“We wanted to do something memorable and it ended up being great fun to organise.”

The reunion’s organising committee say they now want to keep in touch and arrange more meet-ups in the future.
