law, and be suitably punished for his misdeeds?

If we do leave the EU and crash out without a deal then any enforcement action against a prime minister who has broken the law would be a test of the premise that all are equal in the eyes of the law, and none are above it.

I sincerely trust that would be case, or would we have a ‘do as I say, don’t do as I do’ regime, and proof that when it comes to the law, some are indeed more equal than others? Allister Band Hermitage Drive Perth I found it so interesting reading the headline in the PA on October 4,“Chloe shows her poetic prowess” as a young girl received an award gifted in the name of the late, great Perth poet, William Soutar.

Indeed, along with this girl’s success in reciting one of Soutar’s poems, I also acknowledge the talented youngsters with their recitals of Soutar’s work which was highlighted on STV.

It is good that youngsters are showing an interest in Soutar’s poetic talent, but I would like to see young people learn and admire other poets, not just from the Fair City, but from across Perthshire’s great poetic past.

As this young lady recited ‘The Wind’, one of Soutar’s poems, a similar poem titled ‘Wind’ was also written by the Perthshire poet Robert Nichol, who resided near Bankfoot.

In 1857 a 50 foot monument was inaugurated in memory of Robert Nichol at great expense, with contributions coming not just from his ‘ain folk’ in Bankfoot, but citizens of the Fair City.

Perth’s city fathers, along with locals, were among over 100 who gathered to hail Nichol as one of their own.

We also remember the legacy of our White Rose - the name given to Caroline Oliphant, who after marriage was known to the world as Lady Nairne.

I would find it so worthy if, along with William Soutar, who rightly deserves praise, youngsters also learned of other poets, as well as the two mentioned.

I believe all of them deserve credit. Well done to that good lass with her trophy. Thomas Brown Garry Place Bankfoot
