City centre junction re-opens after roadworks
A major Perth city centre junction, which has been plagued with roadworks in recent weeks, has reopened.
Perth and Kinross Council announced the junction improvement works at the Barrack Street, Atholl Street and Caledonian Road junction had been completed ahead of schedule.
As a result, the traffic lights were officially switched back on on Wednesday, October 23.
Buses using this junction were also moved back to their original routes on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said:“We can confirm that the majority of the junction improvement works are now complete, ahead of schedule, at the Barrack Street, Atholl Street and Caledonian Road junction in Perth.
“As a result, we will be switching on traffic signals and reopening the junction in all directions on Wednesday, October 23.
“The council can additionally confirm that all bus services which have been subject to diversions during the works will resume their normal routes as of 5pm [on Wednesday].”
However, there are some works that still need to be completed.
There will continue to be pavement and a lane closure while the remaining footway resurfacing works are completed.
The council spokesperson continued:“Some footway resurfacing works remain to be completed, which will be undertaken via a footway closure and carriageway lane closures to allow them to be carried out safely and as efficiently as possible.
“We anticipate that these works will be completed by next Friday, November 1.
“We would also like to remind residents and visitors alike that businesses in the city centre are open as usual and can still be accessed during the remaining works.”
