Airlift from island for sick patient

-

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) played a key role in the rescue of a seriously ill patient from an island on Loch Lomond.

The air ambulance helicopter flew to a rendezvous point at Balmaha while Loch Lomond Rescue Boat ferried the patient from Inchcailloch Island to waiting crews from SCAA and the Scottish Ambulance Service.

SCAA then flew the man to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital at Glasgow for advanced care.

SCAA was also deployed when a woman fell on steps in a remote location near Huntly. The aircraft paramedics helped treat the patient before she was taken by road ambulance to hospital, freeing SCAA up for further emergencies.

The speed of an air ambulance was brought into sharp focus when SCAA was tasked to pick up a specialist team at Glasgow and take them on to Dunoon where a little boy required emergency care.

SCAA safely delivered the critical care team to the scene and then airlifted them with the youngster to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Other emergency call outs for the crew in the past week have included a road traffic collision in Fife and a medical emergency near Brora.

*** Former Diageo staff continue to support SCAA through their annual bus trip.

The Perth-based Diageo Retirement Association has donated a further £697.71 from their recent outing and through a collection raised following a talk from SCAA on the charity’s work.

This latest donation brings the group’s support of SCAA to date to £1567.71.
