NO PLACE FOR OLD PALS’ ACT Tanser promises ex Saints a redhot time of it

-

Scott Tanser has been pleased to watch former St Johnstone players Brian Easton and Blair Alston impress at Hamilton.

But the full-back insists there will be no time for any old pals’ act when the pair return to McDiarmid Park on Saturday.

Both Easton and Alston signed for Accies in the summer – and they sit five points and four places above winless Saints in the Premiership.

Ahead of tomorrow’s match, Tanser told the Perthshire Advertiser: “Brian Easton and Blair Alston seem to be doing well.

“It’s good to see them playing but it’s about us at the end of the day, we can’t be concentrating on them.

“I’ve seen highlights of Hamilton and I’m expecting some physicality from them.

“They are a team who put up a fight in every game and that means they are going to be hard to beat.

“But with our technical ability, hopefully we’ll be fine. You’ve got to win or at least pick up points at home.

“Then with the away games, points on the road are always good.

“Hamilton haven’t won at our place for a while now so we need to go into the game with confidence because of that record.”

Spirits were high in training this week as Tanser and Co prepared for the crunch clash.

“Training has been enjoyable this week because we need to keep spirits high to hopefully get that first win,” Tanser said.

“It’s been a frustrating start to the season. Everyone has seen how many times we could have won games already.

“There are just minor things that we need to work on. While we need to score more of our chances, we need to defend better as well.

“It’s a struggle when you go onenil down because teams start to sit in against you. It obviously makes it harder to get that equaliser.

“But we need to be taking the game to the other team and really work on getting that first goal. I’m sure we’ll push on from there.”

Tanser added that the players are just as frustrated as supporters with being bottom of the standings after nine games.

“Personally it does affect you,” he said. “In football you are going to lose games, but you just need to keep the head high.

“You need to get everyone through it because we’re all in it together and there is no-one else who can change it.

“We need the fans to stay on side but I know it is as frustrating for them as it is for us. The more they get behind us, the more it’s going to turn round.”

The 25-year-old left back has been the oldest player in the Perth defence this term, alongside skipper Jason
