Musical treat featuring six classically trained singers

-

A charity concert is being held in St Leonard’s-in-the-Fields Church on Saturday night, with a varied musical programme and six classically trained singers.

Perth’s own tenor Liam Bonthrone, baritones Kenneth Maciver and David Thomson, and sopranos Fiona Brownsmith and Marilyn Taylor perform.

Lending his voice on November 2 to the singing talent from Perthshire is Slovakian counter tenor Matej Benda.

Matej studies alongside Kenneth in the Conservatoire of The Hague, with Professor Amand Hekkers.

Matej and Kenneth have performed together in opera and in‘Elijah’, with the Philharmonie Haarlem.

Liam has recently sung a leading role with the British Youth Opera, receiving glowing reviews, and is in great demand as a soloist in oratorio and opera.

He enjoys the lighter side of music too, joining with Kenneth as one of the‘Two Highland Lads’, who perform throughout the UK.

Accompanists to the singers will be John Walker on organ and piano and Edna Auld, the director of Jambouree.

The programme should have something for everyone, featuring excerpts from Mendelssohn’s ‘Elijah’, operatic favourites including the‘Pearl Fishers Duet’ and‘O mio babbino caro’, and a special‘Scotland the What’tribute, followed by a selection of Scots songs.

Well-known accordionist Jim Clelland will join in for the Scots section of the programme.

The concert is being organised in aid of Cornhill Macmillan.

And as well as this, the event is also in memory of Jill Mitchell, a long-time supporter of the Jambouree Choir, whose adult singers are presenting the evening.

It’s happening at St Leonard’s-inthe-Fields Church, starting at 7pm. Tickets cost £10 for adults, £5 for children, available from Concorde Music in Scott Street. The ticket price includes refreshments.

Profits will go to Cornhill and any extra donations will be most welcome.
