Man who lost the plot threatened to stab his partner and her family

-

A Perth man lost the plot and threatened to kill his long-term partner - and stab members of her family - after a furious row over money.

The frightening incident left Jennifer Thomson“hysterical and crying,”Perth Sheriff Court was told.

Depute fiscal Mairi Graham said 29-year-old Michael Mackie, of South William Street, had bought a car in January of this year for him and his partner - and she had agreed to pay half the cost by instalments.

But when she returned from work and told him she wasn’t able to give him the cash he expected, an argument erupted.

“He became aggressive and shouted in her face, calling her a ‘money-grabbing b ***** d.’

“She called her mother, Alison Thomson, and while on the phone he said he was going to‘stab all her family.’

“That was overheard by her mother who recognised his voice,” added the fiscal.

“She could also hear that her daughter was hysterical and crying.”

Mrs Thomson told her daughter to “pack her bags”and she would pick her up.

But as Jennifer went to the bedroom to collect her belongings, Mackie said:“I’m going to kill you.”

Police officers quickly arrived and they could see the woman was“visibly upset.”

He was arrested and subsequently admitted shouting and swearing at his partner in their flat on February 9, 2019, and threatening her and members of her family.

Solicitor David Holmes said his client, who works for a delivery company, had been prescribed medication but hadn’t been taking it.

An argument had developed but he couldn’t remember making some of the threats.

They had been in a relationship for eight years and he now realised how supportive she had been.

“They are now attending counselling to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

Sheriff Keith O’Mahony fined Mackie £300, payable at £30 a month.
