Council tenants could soon be faced with a rent increase of up to 4.5 per cent.

Perth and Kinross Council has opened up a consultati­on on rent level options for 2020/21, and is encouragin­g as many tenants as possible to have their say.

Tenants will be able to chose one of three options for next year’s rent.

This includes increasing the rent by 3.5 per cent, increasing the rent by four per cent, or increasing the rent by 4.5 per cent.

A spokespers­on for the local authority said: “Each year the council reviews the rent levels satisfied that having regard to the nature of the offence - and the lack of record - that I can deal with matters by way of a direct alternativ­e.”

A solicitor for the accused said he and his family had moved south of the border to be near his wife’s mother, who has health issues.

His wife also “struggles to walk,” according to the lawyer, and the court was told previously that Mahmood was the “main carer” for her.

Mahmood was convicted by a jury in April of intentiona­lly exposing himself to three teenage girls - two aged 13 and a 15-year-old - near Perth Academy. we charge to tenants for the housing services we provide.

He had denied that on March 22, 2018, at Viewlands Road, Perth, he engaged in sexual activity in the presence of two 13-year-old schoolgirl­s.

The court was told that he called them over to ask for directions but they saw him carrying out a sex act on himself as he sat in a black BMW.

His sleazy behaviour continued when he exposed himself to another teenage schoolgirl just five days later - on March 27.
