Fireworks display axed due to council bill
A popular fireworks display, which was due to take place tonight (Friday, November 8), has been cancelled.
The annual display in Coupar Angus’ Larghan Park has been called off after organisers were hit with an £1800 bill from Perth and Kinross Council.
Blast Design, which organises the fireworks, has been invoiced for the event in 2016 and 2017, and for work to move the park’s fire pit.
Owner John Kettles said he was not invoiced for the admin fees of the previous displays, and did not ask the council to move the firepit.
He added there had been no negotiation with the council before receiving these invoices, and adds he runs these displays for free.
On the other hand, Perth and Kinross
Council says Mr Kettles had agreed to pay for part of the costs.
A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said:“The invoice that has been issued is for a contribution to the relocation of the hardstanding area and fire pit, all as agreed with Mr Kettles in 2017.
“In addition, there are outstanding payments for administrative fees for events held in 2016 and 2017, which are charged for all community events expecting to draw over 100 people.
“Our policy very clearly states that if there are outstanding fees owed to the council from event organisers, then permission will not be granted for further events.
“We have sent regular communications to Mr Kettles to try and resolve the matter but he does not respond.”
