Tat’ll do nicely as spud firm does its bit

-

A group of Perthshire workers have put their best foot forward for charity.

More than 20 employees at Branston Ltd, the potato supplier based in Abernethy, have been walking and cycling a total of 500 miles.

The group has been doing this in a bid to raise thousands for the Maggie’s Centre in Dundee.

Kevin Imrie, general manager at Branston, said:“I’m so proud of everyone who took part and the money raised so far, plus the remaining sponsorship we have coming in means we have smashed our £3000 target.

“At Branston, giving back to the community and charity causes is so very important to us as a business and we really value the time and effort put in by our generous team members and their families to support the cause.”

The fundraising challenge saw the group give up their Sunday, October 27 to complete as many laps of the eight-mile circular‘Rhynd Roond’from Bridge of Earn as they could.

At the end, the distance trekked by each individual was added up and together they travelled a total of 389 miles.

Laura Boyd, centre fundraiser for Maggie’s, said: We are simply delighted with the amount raised and a huge thank you to everyone involved for being a part of such a great event.

“Maggie’s Dundee welcomes over 13,000 visitors a year and it costs around £2400 for the centre to be open for one day.

“This event will go a long way to helping Maggie’s Dundee to provide practical, social and emotional support to people with cancer and their family and friends.”

The team is still collecting donations on their fundraising page at www. justgiving.com/fundraising/ branston500
