Anti-speeding measures

-

It is hoped road safety will be improved in a Perthshire village after it was agreed to introduce a range of anti-speeding measures.

Plans have been put in place in a bid to reduce the speed of traffic on the A85 in Methven, particularly around Methven Primary School.

Representatives from the village as well as from BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland and Perth and Kinross Council met on Tuesday, November 5 to come up with the plans for the future.

Dragon teeth markings will be introduced at either side of the village in a big to prompt drives to reduce their speed, along with‘30mph’being painted on either side of the village as well.

The crossing outside the primary school is to be repainted in yellow to make it more visible, and more signs advising motorists of the school will be installed.

Centre of the road markings are set to be removed to give the appearance of the road being narrower as well.

A spokesperson for Transport Scotland said:“Representatives from BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council and a member of the Methven community met on November 5 to discuss potential improvements to the A85 through Methven with the aim of reducing traffic speeds through the village and in the vicinity of the primary school.

“It was agreed that the new and refreshed road markings and additional signage would be provided and monitoring of speeds carried out thereafter.

“BEAR Scotland will now progress these improvements, which will be prioritised amongst other road safety works in the north-west unit.

“It is anticipated that these improvement measures will be undertaken in the next financial year.”
