We’re rallying to the cause

The Perth Silent Auction has been attracting donations from all sectors of the Perth and Kinross business community.

And Provost Dennis Melloy has joined a long list of civic heads who have thrown their weight behind the annual fundraiser organised by the Rotary Club of Perth in tandem with the Perthshire Advertiser.

“The silent auction has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for deserving causes over many years, thanks to the generosity of the people of Perth and Kinross,” said Cllr Melloy.

“As provost of Perth and Kinross it is a pleasure to be able to offer afternoon tea and a visit to historic St John’s Kirk and the old council chambers as one of the 2019 lots.”

Well-known Fair City barber Ewen Anderson was among the very first to support the silent auction when it first started.

“I enjoy being part of the charity auction,” he said.

“In past years it has created great rivalry amongst our customers as they vie with each other to see who eventually comes out on top.

“Knowing that the beneficiaries of this marvellous auction are all deserving makes our support a delight and a pleasure.”

Nearby in George Street, Provender Brown deli owner Diane Brown has again served up a tempting lot.

“We firmly believe in supporting local good causes. However, as a small business, we do have to be selective,” she said.

“I am always amazed at how much the Perth Silent Auction raises each year and as such, I believe they get good value from our donations.

“Many of our customers are members of the Rotary Club and it’s good that they can see our name in the list published weekly in the PA and know that we are supporting the auction.”

Glenearn Flooring is a regular supporter and managing director Jane Ewing said: “We like to support the Perth Silent Auction as we feel it is a great way for local businesses to come together and support charities within the community, knowing that the sums raised are going to be substantial enough to make a real difference to the organisations selected.”

Award-winning celebrity chef Praveen Kumar, owner of Tabla and the Indian Cook School, believes Rotarians have a recipe for success on their hands.

He said: “Knowing that every penny goes to the chosen charities gives me confidence that my donations will be helping those less well off or in need of help.”

At Cairncross of Perth, Martin Young is a huge admirer of the work carried out locally and further afield by Rotary.

He said: “There is enormous goodwill for the organisation, locally, nationally and, indeed, worldwide.”

At accountants Campbell Dallas, Andrew Ritchie noted: “It’s good to see the local community supporting the Perth Silent Auction.

“The Rotary Club of Perth and the Perthshire Advertiser have, over many years, put a huge effort into this fundraising event and it shows in the amount raised.

“I would urge all local businesses to support this year’s auction.”
