ROAD RUNNERS

-

The Auchterarder Running Festival was again well-attended and hugely successful.

And the popular event provided the platform for Perth Road Runners to take part in the final race of their club championship.

Two races were contested by members, a 10k on the Saturday followed by a half marathon on the Sunday.

Eddie Torrie won the 10k and received the double award for the quickest combined time over both races, 38:01 and then 1:25.11 for the half marathon.

Lorraine MacPherson was first woman for the club in the 10K - fourth female and third vet 40 overall - with a time of 43:49.

Others to have completed both the 10k and half marathon were Harriet Shaw, Caroline Hogarth, Lou Ella Cole, Gillian Smith, Rhona Barclay and Piotr Fieodorow.

Fifty-two club members completed the half marathon, with Kevin Riddell winning the race in 1:22.43. Claire Douglas was first woman for the club with 1:40.03.

Brian Galletly, meanwhile, was second male vet 50 in 1:37, while Gillian McGuire 1:44.12 and Tessa Ward 1:48.31 were first and third female vet 50 respectively.

There were also personal bests for Bryan Jenkins in 1:37.08, Finlay Dale 2:03.05 and Steven Harker 1:56.10.

A special thank you went to Ronnie Glen who, after four years, is standing down as the Perth Road Runners’ club championship organiser.

Ronnie works the year round putting together a race calendar for the athletes and consolidating the results afterwards for the club leaderboard.

Elsewhere on the racing front, Stewart Dallas took the long road and completed his first Ultra, the Glen Ogle 33 miles.

The beautiful route started from Killin and included the Glen Ogle Viaduct with just under 3000 feet of ascent.

Across the pond, Perth was represented in the New York Marathon where Duncan Ryan clocked 2:43.43 while Sue Jones and Kate Cowan both ran four hours 49 minutes.

Also abroad was Maureen Summers who completed two races - a 10k and a 15k cross country - while on holiday in the scorching 35 degree heat of Cyprus.

To parkrun and 23 club members ran in the Perth event on Saturday. Kevin Riddell and Gillian Edwards were first home for the club.

Fair City members were also recorded at Edinburgh, Rockingham, Thurso and Beverley Westwood, East Yorkshire.

The club meets every Tuesday from 6.20pm at Bell’s Sports Centre for a training run.
