Brash thrilled with five-star Blair side

-

Blairgowrie Juniors put in a five star performance to breeze to three points against Forfar Albion on Saturday.

The 5-1 win moves the Davie Park men back to the summit of the North Premier League and keeps up recent form which has seen them defeated only once.

Darren Neave and Cammy McManus both struck deadly doubles in the weekend triumph before Rudi Brown added gloss to the final scoreline.

Manager Mark Brash was a happy man at full-time and, while delighted with the five-goal haul, was also quick to point out the work-rate of his determined players.

“It was a great performance although I was slightly disappointed we didn’t keep the clean sheet,”said Brash.“But we created loads of chances and put in a top performance.

“We have quality that can hurt teams all over the pitch. What has been so pleasing this season is the work ethic.

“The attitude at training and on a Saturday has been top class.

“The plan is to just keep going week by week.”

Challengers East Craigie, who were dethroned from the top, were meant to be travelling to Perthshire for a league tussle with Coupar Angus. But that match at Foxhall Park was postponed due to an unplayable pitch.

In the North Super League, Scone Thistle were also out of action after an early morning pitch inspection at Farquharson Park. Sean Whitworth’s side were penned in to welcome Broughty Athletic.

Luncarty’s home fixture against Downfield did get the green light but it turned out to be a disappointing afternoon for the Bleachers.

The visitors went in at half-time with a slender one-goal advantage but netted again after the break to return to Dundee with a 2-0 triumph.

“I thought we started very well on Saturday and really should have got ourselves into the lead,”said Luncarty manager Jon Kelly. “Downfield scored with their first shot on goal and that put a few heads down.

“It’s disappointing but the last thing we will be doing is feeling sorry for ourselves. Working harder and having character will be key in these winter months.

“Yes we have injuries to a number of key players, but that is certainly no excuse for me. The players who have the shirts must be doing better on the park and they know this.”

Both Perth teams went without football in the East of Scotland League at the weekend.

Jeanfield’s Premier Division match with Blackburn United was off due to the weather while Kinnoull had a free week.
