Thistle do nicely as winners scoop awards

Straloch Highland Retreats’ emphasis on customer service and sustainabi­lity struck a chord with the judges

Businesses from across Perth and Kinross struck gold at the Scottish Thistle Awards regional finals.

The event for those in the tourism industry for Central, Fife and Tayside proved to be a fruitful for six nominees from the region.

The Old Manse of Blair in Blair Atholl was awarded the best hotel experience, sponsored by Fishers.

Judges praised the hotel for offering personal touches to guests and working in collaborat­ion with the local community.

Straloch Highland Retreats in Blairgowri­e received the best self catering accommodat­ion experience award, sponsored by Bruce Stevenson Insurance Brokers.

Its emphasis on customer service and sustainabi­lity struck a chord with the judges.

Northlands B&B in Pitlochry was another accommodat­ion winner, being named the most hospitable B&B/guest house, sponsored by Abbey UK.

The four-star accommodat­ion was commended by judges for demonstrat­ing real passion and purpose in its offering, with a customer at heart ethos.

Land Rover Experience Scotland, based in Dunkeld, received the best outdoor adventure experience award.

Judges commended the use of low emission vehicles and the steps to minimise the environmen­tal impact. Staff empowermen­t was also praised by the judging panel.

WILDHOOD festival received the award for best cultural event or festival. The festival for children aged 12 and under took place in a 17th-centure castle near Kinross and included arts, crafts, theatre, circus, nature, outdoors and music. Last year’s festival welcomed more than 850 campers and thousands of day visitors in only its second year.

Finally, the Library at Innerpeffr­ay received the best heritage tourism experience award, sponsored by Historic Environmen­t Scotland.

The authentic and engaging experience was praised by judges, as well as the ambitious but sustainabl­e plans for the future.

The awards, which were presented by TV star Jennifer Reoch, took place in Edinburgh.

The regional winners have earned their place at the prestigiou­s national final in March.
