Consistency key for Swifts stopper Mark

-

Goalkeeper Mark Mitchell admits the stop-start nature of recent weeks is not helping Jeanfield Swifts’cause.

The Riverside squad have been keen to piece together a consistent run of form but waterlogged and frozen pitches have left them idle.

Swifts, currently 11th in the East of Scotland Premier Division, still plan on pushing into the top half of the table in the Christmas run-in.

After last week’s Whitehill Welfare call-off, Mitchell said:“There’s nothing worse when you train all week only for it to be called off.

“It’s very frustrating but we know it’s the time when postponements are going to happen unfortunately.

“You are constantly clock watching because you know there is going to be an inspection.

“You are just praying it’s going to be on.

“You never want to be training on a Saturday, but if that’s the case it has to be done.

“Anyone involved in football just wants to play but there’s not much you can do and you always just need to try prepare for the game being on.

“The season has been quite frustrating with results in general. I’d love to put the finger on why that is.

“We’re maybe not punishing teams and killing them off, then we’re getting punished for the slightest of mistakes.

“It’s not for the want of trying, but we just can’t produce the same performance two weeks in a row.

“We’re really needing a good run of games to get a bit of consistency with results and performances. But it’s certainly not all doom and gloom.

“A couple of wins can really rocket you up the table. It’s a very tight league.”

Swifts, weatherpermitting, are set to come up against Dundonald Bluebell in the league on Saturday afternoon.

“Dundonald, especially at home, are a very strong outfit,”Mitchell added.

“They don’t drop many points when playing at home.

“They are a big, physical side but also have plenty of quality in the forward department.

“It will be a very difficult game. I was looking at the league and they can go second if they win their games in hand.”
