FOOTBALL Luncarty earn the bragging rights

-

Luncarty won the battle of Perthshire in a feisty and entertaining derby match at Scone’s Farquharson Park.

The Saturday afternoon tussle beat the weather after a deluge of rain earlier in the day and was always expected to be a tight encounter.

Scone had the bragging rights from the two previous North Super League games but the determined Bleachers came out of the traps quickly this time.

Richard Henderson opened the scoring in the 19th minute after taking advantage of a defensive mistake to lob the ball into the back of the net.

The lead was doubled as the interval approached when rising central defender Bradie Heggie powered home a header from a corner.

Aaron Carlon missed a penalty for the Jags but Darren Gray did make things interesting late on with an 88th minute finish.

Luncarty held out for 2-1 and boss Jon Kelly said:“It was very tough conditions on Saturday with the rain but I thought the lads battled hard and we were well worth the victory.

“If it wasn’t for poor refereeing just before half-time we could have went in 3-0 up at the break.

“In the second half Scone had a go which we expected, but our defence stood up well to it and again we could have added at the other end.

“There were a few tackles flying in but that’s to be expected in a derby match. But it was great to see the heart and desire that we showed in difficult conditions. We will now look to push on from this.

“There have been a lot of positives in the last couple of weeks with getting four lads back from injury.”
