Four police to restrain teen who lost the plot in pub

-

It took four police officers to restrain an out-of-control Perth teenager after he caused havoc in a Blairgowrie pub.

As a result, 19-year-old Declan McGill, of Drumhar Court, has been banned meantime from the Dreadnought Inn while he awaits sentence at Perth Sheriff Court on January 15.

He appeared from custody this week to admit five out of the six drink-fuelled charges he faced.

Trouble kicked off in the Dreadnought, in the town’s Perth Street, when he started shouting and swearing, acting in an aggressive manner and making violent threats.

He then pushed staff member Shelly Thompson on the body - and when the police were called, McGill began to flail his arms and legs, struggle violently and kick out with his legs.

Constables Lee Burrell, Liv McIntyre, Martin Gemmell and Gary Polson eventually managed to get him under control.

But during the resultant melee, the accused spat on PC Polson’s body.

He also admitted having a dart in his possession.

He was subject to an October 18, 2019, bail order from the Perth court at the time.

McGill had a not guilty plea accepted to a charge of refusing to leave the Blair bar when asked by Ms Thompson.

Lawyer Pauline Cullerton said her client is currently on a plumbing course at college and is in receipt of a bursary.

He is due to take up a work placement after the holidays.

Sheriff Keith O’Mahony said:“I appreciate he doesn’t have a lengthy record but there’s been a course of conduct over a short period of time.”

He deferred sentence for a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty order assessment.

A further special bail condition imposed means he will have to remain in his home from 8pm-7am, seven days a week, and open the door to Police Scotland officers when they check whether he is at home.
