Top bill for 16th sporting dinner

-

A premier Perth sportsman’s dinner is set and ready to entertain guests for a 16th year.

The popular 200-plate King James VI Golf Club New Year cobweb buster, sponsored by JACS Joinery and Construction Supplies Ltd, takes place in the Salutation Hotel on Saturday, January 18.

And those in attendance are in for a treat with headline act this year being John Stiles - son of World Cup winner Nobby.

John is a well-established talent in dinner circles down south but is a fresh face in Scottish terms. His speaking partner on the night is Willie Allan.

They will offer up a cracking combination which is sure to keep Perth’s sportsmen on their toes.

Lead organiser Ian McPhee of King James VI Golf Club is upbeat about the event and cannot wait to kick off the new year in style.

He said:“We are delighted to announce details of our 16th annual dinner and we’re thrilled to be able to put together a top bill in Willie and John.

“We love entertaining Perth’s sportsmen in the middle of January each year. It’s great to bring cheer at a time when a wee lift is always welcome.”

Ian continued:“It’s also brilliant to be part of such a positive sporting vibe when golf club closures and funding pressures are all too common.

“In our case, we need £300k per year to finance the KJVI club and, as anybody in golf administration will tell you, member subscriptions alone don’t come close to covering that.

“So the support we get from members and their friends, companies and sponsors for our dinner is something we treasure.

“Well done must also go to our KJVI ladies who have just completed a hugely successful inaugural sportswoman’s dinner in aid of our club too.

“It’s reflective of the King James VI spirit.”

The Sportsman’s Dinner is open to anyone who is up for a good night. Tickets are selling fast but places are still available.
