CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTS

The Christmas tree lights will be switched on in the village tonight. The ceremony itself will begin outside Dunbarney Primary School at 7pm. Carol singing will be led by Rev Allan Wilson, Rev Craig Dobney and Perthshire Brass band. Warm mince pies and sweets will be served afterwards. All welcome.

CHRISTMAS CARD POST

The Friends of Guiding will once again be organising a Christmas card postal service in the villages of Bridge of Earn, Kintillo and Oudenarde. Collection boxes will be available in Davidsons pharmacy, Kintillo shop, and the church session house until tomorrow. Cards will be then delivered over the weekend of December 7/8. It will cost 20p per card for postage.

BRIDGE OF EARN GUIDES

The Chatterbox children will hold their Christmas party in the church hall on Thursday, December 12. All youngsters will be made welcome. The Chatterbox group will resume after the festive holidays on Thursday, January 9.

CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL

A Christmas tree festival will be held in Dunbarney Church from December 13–15. Doors will be open from 12 noon to 4pm. As well as the numerous decorated trees, teas and coffees will be served in the church hall. All welcome.

OLD TYME DANCE

The next dance will take place on Friday, December 13 in the Institute from 7.30–10.30pm. Music will be provided by Johnny Duncan. Tickets cost £5 (includes tea and biscuits), available at the door on the night.

EARN SINGERS

by the Rev Douglas Main with Moira Ormiston as organist. The candle of hope was lit by Lars Rattray. Readings were from Isaiah chapter 52, verses 7-10 and from the Gospel of Luke chapter one, verses 5-16 and 57-66. Sunday club was led by Susanne Burton and Joy Gowrie. The chancel had been decorated for Christmas by ladies on the flower list. Tea and coffee was served by Margaret and Jim Mackay. There was a retiring collection in aid of the village’s defibrilla­tor. The Christmas gift box will be available in the church until Sunday, December 15. All gifts donated will then be delivered to the Salvation Army branch in Perth. The Guild will hold an afternoon of carols and stories on Thursday, December 5 at 2pm in the church centre. All welcome. A wreath making event will take place on December 8/9 in the church centre. Volunteers welcome. Wreaths, priced £10, can be ordered from Etta 828293 or at the café. lights will take place in the village of Spittalfie­ld on Monday, December 9. The lighting ceremony itself will begin at 6.30pm with carol singing and refreshmen­ts being served in front of the Muckle Hoose.

TRIBUTE

The staff and pupils of Glendelvin­e Primary School invited parents and friends to join them last Friday morning. A tree was planted in the school grounds in memory of their popular classroom assistant, Fiona Bryan, who sadly passed away in October following a short illness. A former pupil of Glendelvin­e, Fiona had been a cook there for many years until reorganisa­tion closed the kitchen, before working as a cleaner, and latterly as a classroom assistant. She is greatly missed by all at the school.

CAROL SERVICE

The Rev Peggy Ewart Roberts led a carol service in the church on Monday evening with Janet Coyle as organist. Pupils from the nearby school sang two festive carols and the Rev Bill Ewart was the reader. Despite the rain all went outside for the countdown to the switch on of the Christmas tree lights, before returning inside for refreshmen­ts.

A Christmas fair will take place in Milnthort Primary School tomorrow from 10am to 12 noon. Local craft stalls, cake and candy, raffle, pocket money stall, fun games, tombola, waffles and lots more. A very special visitor will also be making an appearance.

Entry is £2 (includes tea and coffee), children are free. There will also be a collection for Broke not Broken and food donations will be welcomed.

MILNATHORT FILMHOUSE

The film ‘Rocketman’ will be shown in Milnathort Town Hall tomorrow. Doors open at 7.30pm for 8pm start. This is for over 18s only, bring your own bottle. Tickets £6, concession­s £4 and these can be book via their website, www. milnathort­filmhouse.com or payable at the door on the night. A tuck shop will also be available for snacks.
