Firefighter’s clothes skip charity plea
A Perth firefighter is doing her bit to encourage people to have a January clearout and give clothes to a charity collection for members of the rescue services community.
Chelsea Moore works at Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Perth base and is also a retained firefighter in Aberfeldy, where she lives.
All year round there is a big yellow container outside the Perth fire station, but January is the month the fire service likes to remind people the clothes skip is there, helping the Fire Fighters Charity.
“I find it is around now, as people recover from Christmas and New Year, that they feel like getting rid of a lot of ‘stuff’ they don’t need,” explained Chelsea.
“So anyone wondering where to send it, we have the answer.
“The push is on now to collect as many tonnes of textiles as possible.
“We want adult and children’s clothing - either good condition or more down the recycling end of things (as these can be taken away for rag collection).
“Paired shoes, handbags and bed linen and towels would also be very welcome.
“Every penny we raise through our ‘Bag it and Bank it Recycling Championship’ will help us to make a life-changing difference to members of your fire and rescue services community.”
Chelsea has personal reasons for getting behind the charity drive. She explained: “The UKbased Fire Fighters Charity is fantastic. It helps rehabilitate injured fire crew all over the country, serving and retired.
“A few years back I received help when I spent three weeks at a centre in the Jubilee Centre at Penrith in the Lake District, getting treatment for an injury at work.
“The Fire Fighters Charity helped me so much. It put me up and got me back on my feet. At the various centres, it does physio, counselling and provide accommodation.”
“All I can say is this is such a worthy fantastic cause and thank you from the bottom of my heart. Keep those donations coming.
“So far you wonderful people have donated enough to fill the huge donation container, twice.”
Chelsea has offered to be a drop-off point and to collect donations from the Aberfeldy area which she will bring into the main collection hub at Perth Fire Station. She can be contacted on 07810 215 511.
