Shape of Perth West plan to be revealed

- PAUL CARGILL

The John Dewar Lamberkin Trust is preparing to take the wraps off its latest proposals for a sprawling site west of Perth, including a project it reckons could provide over 1000 jobs.

It comes just two months after Perth and Kinross Council adopted the latest iteration of its local development plan stating the so-called ‘Perth West’ site could end up accommodating as many as 3453 new homes, plus two double stream primary schools.

A proposal of application notice (PAN) filed with the local authority the day before Christmas last year, says the scheme will include a “mixed use development comprising residential, business, education and industrial use, hotel [and] community and health facilities”.

It says the site will also contain a proposed “innovation highway” including “a regional consolidation centre [and] education campus linked to industrial research into low carbon urban mobility”.

The trust reckons this could end up supporting 1055 full-time equivalent jobs.

The PAN, which council officials only got around to “validating” last week, says a public exhibition is going to be held at the Leonardo (Huntingtower) Hotel in two weeks time, where people will be able to get a proper look at what’s being proposed.

It adds the trust will also be seeking meetings with members of Methven and District Community Council and Earn Community Council between now and the end of February in an attempt to gain their support for the scheme.

Trustee Alexander Dewar told the PA: “We are really looking forward to the next stage in delivering the Perth West project. The local development plan was adopted in November and we have now submitted a pre-application notice to help shape a planning application in the next few months.

“Perth West is a mixed use development that incorporates the Perth Innovation Highway, a Tay Cities Deal project, which will make a step change in the transformation of the city as a whole to a low carbon economy, a business park and mobility hub along with mixed tenure housing, public amenities and a heritage park.

“The next three months will see continued engagement with communities and interested parties to set out a framework for bringing forward this ambitious project.”

The public exhibition is being held at the Leonardo (Huntingtower) Hotel between 2pm and 8pm on Thursday, February 6.
