New road crossing for village

- RACHEL AMERY

A new puffin crossing is set to be installed in Stanley.

Perth and Kinross Council has written to residents in the village to tell them the existing zebra crossing on Perth Road is to be turned into a puffin crossing with traffic lights.

Work is due to begin on Monday, February 3.

It is expected to last for up to 15 working days.

The road between King Street and the north of Percy Street will also be shut off for just over a week, as well while the works are carried out.

In a letter sent to residents, the council said: “I am writing to inform you of works to upgrade the existing zebra crossing on Perth Road to a signalised puffin crossing.

“Along with crossing installation, the existing road hump will be amended to reduce the severity of the slope and increase its length.

“The works are programmed to commence on Monday, February 3 and are expected to last for approximately 10 to 15 working days.

“The works will take place under three-way temporary traffic signals at the junction with Percy Street, however a road closure from King Street to north of Percy Street will be required to carry out the amendments to the road hump.”

The road will be closed from 9.30am on Wednesday, February 12 until 4pm on Sunday, February 16, and again on Monday, February 17 from 9.30am until 2.30pm.

Bus routes will also be affected by this road closure.

The letter went on: “Temporary bus stops will be in use for the duration of the works and directions to these will be provided at the existing stops.

“I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience while the works take place and to assure you that we will endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum where possible.”
