Drunk man climbed up on car and ripped wipers off

-

A drunk man climbed onto the bonnet of a parked car and ripped the windscreen wipers from it.

But as they came away in his hands, he fell backwards off the car and onto the roadway.

The police were called but 42-year-old Stephen Boyle walked off and then uprooted plants outside a local ice cream shop.

The accused, who had also taken valium, was left counting the cost of his bizarre actions when he was fined a total of £450 at Perth Sheriff Court.

He was also ordered to pay £62 in compensation for the damage caused.

Boyle, of Bowling Green Avenue, Kinross, admitted wilfully or recklessly pulling the wipers from the car in Milnathort’s South Street on March 26, 2019.

He also pled guilty to the theft of the plants from Giacopazzi’s, in New Road, Milnathort, the same day.

Depute fiscal Lisa Marshall said a member of the public saw the accused standing on the bonnet of the car about 1pm.

Stating that he was“clearly intoxicated,”the fiscal said Boyle claimed he owned the vehicle, adding:“I was trying to make it perfect.”

He then uprooted the plants from a street planter.

The damage to the car totalled £50 and the plants would cost £12 to replace.

Solicitor David Holmes said the accused had taken valium.

His situation had changed and he had sustained a serious injury to his leg which resulted in him spending five weeks in hospital.

The accused, who appeared in the dock on crutches, will pay the penalties at £20 a month.
