Pupils give CHAS shop a new look
A Kinross charity shop got an eye-catching window make-over from the local school.
As a social enterprise class effort, a group of eco savvy pupils from Kinross High School dedicated their time to window dress the CHAS shop in the town, in an effort to drive donations and encourage upcycling and recycling as a way of life.
The window display is designed to make customers question themselves when it comes to recycling household goods.
It was done by a team of S2 pupils, as part of their Social Enterprise in Education programme.
They set up a project called ‘Same Difference’ which aims to raise money and create relationships with the hospice charity CHAS and children from Rachel House.
CHAS works across
Scotland, providing its hospice services nationwide for babies, children and young people with lifeshortening conditions.
CHAS offers palliative, respite and end-of-life care at Rachel House in Kinross.
The CHAS outlet in Kinross High Street has evolved into two units since opening in 1999. It now comprises a ladieswear boutique and a general shop offering clothing, toys, books and music.
As part of the shop’s January drive, staff are calling on the public to bring in any unwanted gifts, clothes (particularly ladieswear), shoes, accessories, toiletries and jewellery, which can be sold on, recycled or repurposed.
Lynne Penny, business education teacher at Kinross High School, said: “The children and I all feel very proud to be building a relationship between CHAS and Kinross High School.
“So far we have raised a substantial amount to help with the amazing work that happens in Rachel House and we look forward to what we plan to do for the rest of the year. The project is giving our pupils the opportunity to develop their employability skills and raising their awareness of how they can impact society to make a difference.”
Lyndsay Stobie, community fundraiser for CHAS, said: “It has been an absolute pleasure partnering with the social enterprise students at Kinross High School over the last few months.
“They have shown so much enthusiasm to learn more about CHAS, supporting the charity through fundraising and other initiatives like this one, creating a thought-provoking window display in their local charity shop.”
