Woman who had to be restrained at hotel bit police officer

-

A woman, high on a cocktail of drink and drugs, had to be put in leg restraints after helping to trash a room at a popular Perth city centre hotel.

Thirty-one-year-old Kayleigh McElhinney left a bloodspattered trail of destruction - damage totalled almost £1000 - at the Mercure Hotel in West Mill Street.

She shouted and swore at officers who were called by staff to a disturbance in room 206 in the early hours.

She then sunk her teeth into one of the arresting officers.

The accused, of Oswald Street, Kirkcaldy, paid the penalty at Perth Sheriff Court when she had a 75-day restriction of liberty order imposed.

She will be tagged and will have to stay in her home from 7pm-7am.

A co-accused, Lindsay Slaven (43), of School Street, Markinch, was jailed for two months at an earlier court hearing.

They both admitted wilfully or recklessly damaging bedding, a carpet, walls, a hair dryer, a telephone, a mirror, a mattress and a toilet roll holder at the hotel on March 30 this year.

McElhinney also admitted biting PC Mark Ross on the body - and then kicking PCs Leah Hutchison and Lesley McDonald on the body.

The pair were staying overnight in the hotel but police were called about 3.30am.

Depute fiscal Malcolm Sweeney said there were blood stains on the bedding - and on the floor.

“The blood had come from stitches that the accused McElhinney had,” he explained.

She was taken to PRI for assessment but was deemed fit to be taken to the police station where she was charged.

“When her co-accused was arrested, it appears she began to kick off and struggle with police,” explained the fiscal.

Solicitor David Holmes said a background report detailed the problems faced by the accused.

“She has been very much a victim throughout her adult life,” he added.

Because of her over-indulgence in drink and drugs, he added: “She can’t remember what had taken place.”
