Workshops to help people improve mental wellbeing

-

Training which changes how people approach their mental health is being offered in Perth in the coming weeks.

Local mental health organisation PLUS Perth would like to improve the mental wellbeing of the Perth and Kinross population by offering WRAP, or‘wellness recovery action planning’.

This is a simple‘selfmanagement’tool developed in the USA and now used in many countries around the world.

It explains how people have control over aspects of mental wellness, and how learning about this can make a huge difference in a person’s life.

Training in Perth is being kindly funded by Perth and Kinross Council.

“The two-day workshops cover skills and strategies to better manage your wellbeing, mental health recovery concepts and support to write your own wellness recovery action plan,”explained Susan Scott at local mental health organisation, PLUS Perth.

“WRAP is a tool that we can use every day to monitor and relieve any distressing feelings that might arise in our lives.

“It helps to do this by: encouraging us to think about our daily routine and the things we need to do to keep ourselves mentally well.

“Helping us to consider those events that make us feel low or stressed ‘(triggers’);

“Considering what we currently do to help deal with our‘triggers’and our‘early warning signs’, and then helping us identify new approaches and responses that we may find useful in a range of situations in our lives.”

The upcoming workshops are on February 13 and 14 and also on March 5 and 6.

Both sessions take place at the Methodist Church, Scott Street, Perth, from 9am-4.30pm.
