ROAD RUNNERS

-

Perth Road Runners were on the move and competed in a wide variety of races across the country this week.

And kicking the action off at the 10k Vogrie trail race was Daile Sipple, who took on the two mixed terrain laps around the countryside estate paths, woodlands and the Tyne Valley.

Paul Grace was also at the event, competing in the 5k, where he was fifth overall and first V40.

On Saturday, a number of club members ran in the newly routed Devil’s Burden Relay.

The event requires teams of six runners to navigate to checkpoints, as well as four changeover stations. Good navigational sense and a head for heights are required as the route takes in Bishop Hill and both Lomonds in the north-east of Fife.

The club entered one team which finished in 54th place, while numerous club members ran in other teams.

Also on Saturday, club runners Lindsay Finch, Kate Marshall and Kirsty Johnston headed west to Buchlyvie for the annual 10k event. Kate and Lindsay both finished in 1:04.08 while Kirsty completed the course in 1:05.24.

Several green vests took part in the Scone Palace 5km event on Sunday.

Fiona Muir ran in 34:55, Angela Thomson crossed the line in 25:37, Lou McLaren finished in 24:56 and Lou-Ella Cole ran in 23:58.

Perth Road Runner David Stokoe, meanwhile, organised his latest members race to raise funds for RST as part of his London Marathon fundraising.

The race was the final event in a threerace trail series, runners having to accurately predict their finishing times running over hills north of Perth.

Richard Hughes was closest to his predicted time while, over the series, Gillian Edwards and Bryan Jenkins came out on top.

Congratulations went to all those involved in helping David put on this event, which raised £125.

Over at parkrun, Hugh Daly was at Entrance parkrun in Sydney and, slightly closer to home, Ruth Johnson ran Amager Faelled parkrun in Denmark.

Closer still were Anne Bell, Kate Marshall and Kirsty Johnston at Plean while Ronnie Glen and Sue and Alan Bothwell ran at St Andrews.

Jane Dernie competed at the Lochore Meadows parkrun and, rounding off the tourism for this week, Gillian Edwards and Kevin Riddell were at Meadowmill. Thirty-four club members ran at Perth last weekend, led home by Greg Simpson.

Club members meet on a Tuesday evening at 6.25pm in the foyer of Bell’s Sports Centre, North Inch, Perth.

New and prospective members are welcome to join.
