Exciting link-up with Glasgow City
Scone Thistle Girls has announced a partnership with Scotland’s women champions Glasgow City FC.
The link-up, for season 2020, will involve players and coaches from City making the trip to Perthshire for training events.
And there will also be the opportunity for Scone players to make the journey the opposite way.
The move comes as part of City’s plans to grow their network in Scotland and provide girls’clubs with chances to learn, grow and develop.
As well as being current Scottish league champions, they are also the reigning Scottish Cup holders.
And excitement is building for a UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter final tie against German side Wolfsburg in March.
Scone Thistle Girls secretary, Andrew Milne, is excited about the partnership between the two clubs.
He said:“This is a very exciting development for girls football in Scone.
“We have grown substantially over the past few years with over 50 girls in teams from under nine to under-17 age groups and aim to go further.
“The partnership with Glasgow City not only raises the profile of our club but will allow our players and coaches to learn from the best.”
Glasgow City head of football operations Dave Buglass added:“We plan to get out during 2020 and grow our network of clubs.
“We have 180 girls in our own academy programme. Hopefully we can inspire girls in other clubs around Scotland to push on with their ambitions.
“The women’s game is growing at such a pace and to see clubs like Scone keen to recruit more girls into their programme is excellent. Hopefully we can help a little with that.”
