Aimee lifts crown at school event

-

Pitlochry Weightlifting Club member Aimee Robertson has added to a growing list of national titles.

And this time her success came at the Scottish Schools’event, which was held in Kilmarnock last weekend.

Competing in the 55kg class, Aimee, of Pitlochry High School, recorded a personal best snatch of 43kg and a 49kg clean and jerk for a 92kg total.

“I was pleased with my performance at the Scottish Schools,”said Aimee. “I was happy with how the snatches went and got a personal best.

“Before competitions I always get quite nervous, even though it is something I am so used to now.

“But I was in a nice group and we all supported each other, so that helped.

“I was happy with my results from this competition as it was my last year being able to compete in the schools.”

With a break in her competition calendar, it is now a case of sharpening up technique and also getting prepared for more exams.

Aimee said:“My schedule running up to the schools wasn’t too set in place as I was doing prelims at the same time as training for this competition.

“However, now I have finished them, my dad and I are going to make up a new schedule using my lifts from the competition as a benchmark.

“Between now and my next competition I have 14 weeks so the plan is to do an eight-week schedule followed by a six-week one.

“I’ll be working on improving the weaker aspects of my lifts while maintaining strength levels.

“I don’t really have any goals for this year due to having my exams in May and feel I need to concentrate on them.

“My main goal is really just to keep improving my numbers in the lift.”
