Chairman Steverules outfamily forhotseat

Battling Perth players moved their unbeaten run to six games after stunning Rangers with a late leveller on Sunday.

And the Saints frontline certainly impressed with both Callum Hendry and Stevie May netting in the 2-2 McDiarmid Park draw. Hendry said:“We drew mistakes out of the two centre halves. That is all you can ask for from your two strikers.

“When you get them in situations where they start making mistakes, you know you have them on the back foot.”

Steve Brown admits he does not want to pass the baton to family when the time comes to step down as chairman.

The long-serving St Johnstone supremo continues to get a buzz from his role but knows it can also be a thankless task.

Brown was made a director of the club in 2004 and then, in November 2011, moved up to become chairman when father Geoff stepped down.

He has many special memories through the years, including European runs and the Scottish Cup win.

Speaking to the BBC, Brown said: “I don’t want my family to come into it.

“They have promised me they won’t. People who are in football know it is seven days a week, every week.

“It is a lot of sacrifices. It is the nature of the beast. But I wouldn’t wish it on my kids.

“As much as you still get the buzz, it is a burden at times.

“There is a lot of excitement at times and obviously you’re honoured to be the chairman of a club. But it is thankless.

“I’ve no regrets. I’ve great memories and great experiences.

“But I have been a director for 16 years. It’s a long time. Eventually you need to stand aside and let someone else have a go at it.”

Brown has handed more responsibility to new head of football operations Kirsten Robertson this season.

And he said: “I have taken a step back from the day to day side because it needs focus.

“I’m not at the club on a day to day basis. I’m not an employee. I have several day jobs.

“It’s fairer on Tommy and fairer on the club if he has someone on the phone seven days a week.”
