106tested fordeadly virusin Tayside

-

Over 100 suspected cases of COVID-19 have presented across Tayside, it has been revealed.

Health bosses were discussing their response to the crisis at an NHS Tayside board meeting as the PA went to press yesterday.

The figure of 106 includes over 50 this week alone, with most involving people who have been to northern Italy.

However, none of the cases have so far returned as positive.

The news comes as it emerged a school in Perthshire has asked parents to closely monitor the health of their children after they returned from a ski trip in Italy due to fears over the coronavirus.

Thirty-three Morrison’s Academy pupils and six adult chaperones participated in the trip to Passo Tonale in northern Italy.

The UK Government is advising anyone coming back from northern Italy since February 19 to stay in their homes and avoid contact with other people if they have any symptoms, no matter how mild.

A fitness group for people living with learning, sensory and physical disabilities has appealed to council bosses not to pass plans to bulldoze their gym.

The group, which meets every Wednesday morning at Fit4less on Canal Street, was speaking as a consultation period on a proposal to flatten the facility and turn the site into six flats, ended today (Friday, February 28).

Council officers are now set to consider the plans, but members of the group this week told the PA the gym was a lifeline for them.

Group member Scott Phillips said: “If I didn’t come to the gym I would just stay in and do nothing, and that is no good, we would much rather be doing this than standing about doing nothing.”

Lorraine Gilzean, a support worker at Kinnoull Day Opportunities, added: “The staff here are really good with them as well. They genuinely know who they are, which makes such a difference.”
