ST SERF’S CHURCH

The service on Sunday, February 23 was conducted by the Reverend Robert Malloch. Jenny Norris read a passage from Philippian­s chapter one and Isobel Christie provided the church flowers.

This Sunday, March 1 the prayer group will meet in the church hall at 10.45am. Teas and coffees will be available prior to the service.

President Audrey Michie welcomed members and visitors to the February meeting which took the form of a workshop led by Lynda Stewart.

Her subject was napkin art and, following a demonstrat­ion on technique, everyone went home with a decoupaged plant pot.

A favourite napkin was won by Sylvia Russell, with Audrey Michie in second place, and Christine Milne in third. Butterfly cakes was won by Sylvia Russell, with Audrey Michie in second place.

Holy communion will be celebrated in both churches this Sunday, March 1. Dunbarney service is at 9.30am and Forgandenn­y at 11am. All welcome. The next meeting of the Monday Club is on Monday, March 2 at 2pm in the church hall with a talk from Steve Fulton on bees and beekeeping. All welcome. The Chatterbox group will celebrate its 10th anniversar­y on Thursday, March 5. All welcome. This year’s World Day of Prayer will take place in Abernethy church on Friday, March 6 at 10.30am. Come and be part of this service for Zimbabwe. The next messy church will be held on Sunday, March 8 at 3pm in the church hall. Organisers thank everyone who supported the Girlguidin­g pancake coffee morning last Saturday, with £269.65 raised for Guide funds. Thanks to all who donated to this year’s Jars of Grace Appeal which raised £540.96 for Unicef. The arts class meets in the Institute on Friday mornings from 10am to noon. New members welcome. BOWLING CLUB

The annual spring coffee morning will take place on Saturday, March 14 in the church halls, Woodside.

Entrance costs: adults £3, children £1. All the usual stalls and raffle will be on offer. Proceeds to Guild projects. All welcome.

BURRELTON AND WOODSIDE SWI

President Irene Smith welcomed members and visitors to the February meeting.

After business, members were introduced to Barbel Roerig, a member of the Basketmake­rs Associatio­n who showed them a wonderful array of vessels, bowls and trays made from recycled newspaper and magazines. The vote of thanks was given by Margaret Gordon.

The competitio­n of a tray bake was won by Irene Smith, with Betty Wallace in second place, and Chris Pickthall in third.

A folded napkin was won by Kathleen Pirie, with Sarah Urie in second place, and Caroline Weston and Anne Haughs in third equal place.

The flower of the month winner was Anne Robertson.
