Fighters turn on Style at Perth show

-

Young fighter Shay Barnett praised the passionate home crowd following a title-winning performance last week.

Barnett, from Perth, was competing for a WKA Low Kick European belt against Germany’s Marino Wieser at the Letham Centre.

Both fighters entertained the audience but it was the Style Combat Fitness member who secured victory on points.

“My opponent was from a very well-known and respected gym, so I knew I was going to have to be prepared and up for it,” Barnett told the Perthshire Advertiser.

“The buzz from the venue was unreal. It was packed and every one of the Style Combat Fitness shows are getting busier

“It felt amazing as all my friends and family were there supporting me. It was good for me to show all my hard work off to them.

“The event being in Perth made it better and meant more people were able to come and support me.”

Barnett put in months of hard training to get in peak condition for Saturday evening’s show.

He was pleased that hard work paid off and said: “Style Combat Fitness is doing extremely well.

“It’s down to hard work and dedication that all the fighters and coaches are putting in.

“I’ve now got a couple of world championships down in England this year.

“On June 13, Style Combat Fitness is going to be hosting another show where I’ll be fighting for my low kick world title.

“There will be other Style Combat fighters also fighting at the show.”

Coupled with Barnett, a number of Perth fighters produced solid displays at the Style Promotions hosted Fight Fest.

They included Keko Haidar, Scott Ferguson, Jake Moir, Paul McConnachie and Nathan Bartlett.

Ryan Lyall was delighted with how the night went.

“There was a good buzz,”he said. “People from Perth helped out and Pete Chan even fed the fighter from Germany. Everybody from Perth came together.”
