MyEagles canclimb outofthe dropzone

-

Perthshire Rugby coach Alan Clark insists his players have the required fight to pull themselves out of the relegation zone.

The Eagles are in danger of dropping out of the national leagues and currently sit second from bottom of the Tennent’s Division 3 standings.

Those occupying the bottom three positions will be relegated and Shire face an almighty task to claw their way back.

But Clark said: “We’re obviously sitting in the relegation zone. But that is not new to us.

“We have got out of there over the last couple of seasons and there is a lot of rugby to play.

“Outwith Berwick, we are playing teams around us all the way through. It will be an interesting end to the season.

“The guys are starting to mature now and a few old heads are coming back in.

“I’m confident we’ll give a good account of ourselves over the last few games of the season.

“We’re in with a chance of staying up. I know the table doesn’t look great but that doesn’t tell the whole story.”

With games starting to run short, picking up points every week is going to be vital as Shire head for top-of-thetable Berwick tomorrow.

Perth players were out of action last weekend due to a waterlogged pitch.

“Not only have Saturday games been off, the North Inch has been flooded as well,” said Clark. “It hampers you with training.

“We’ve had the guys in the gym but you can’t really play rugby. We were pleased to get back training on Thursday night.

“I’d imagine the game at Berwick will be on. I don’t think there is a team in the league that isn’t desperate to play. When games get cancelled at this stage, you find yourself going to the end of April and maybe even May.”
