Residents are being encouraged to go along to an upcoming event to hear more about plans to erect a new primary school building.

As Perth and Kinross Council looks to close Balhousie Primary School and move all pupils to nearby North Muirton Primary School, a brand new school building is needed.

The building will replace the current North Muirton Primary School on Uist Place.

Now the team behind the ambitious plan is set to hold two pre-application drop-in sessions at the two primaries next week to let members of the public find out more about what is happening.

A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said: “Members of the public are invited to attend a drop-in session at North Muirton Primary School on Uist Place, Perth, on Monday, March 9 between 4pm and 8pm.

“The event will be repeated at Balhousie Primary School on Dunkeld Road, Perth on Tuesday, March 10 between 4pm and 8pm.

“Information will be provided on the proposed development and the project team will be in attendance to discuss the initial proposals with interested parties.

“Further information may be requested from

“Persons wishing to make comments on the proposals may do so at the above event or in writing to Perth and Kinross Council, project support team, education and children’s services, 2 High Street, Perth, PH1 5PH by Tuesday, March 24.

“Any comments made to the applicant are not representations to the planning authority.

“If a planning application is subsequently submitted there will be an opportunity to make formal representations on that application to the planning authority.”

Balhousie Primary School is set to close its doors in summer 2022.
