Three trauma cases airlifted

-

Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) airlifted three patients to Ninewells Trauma Centre in Dundee from separate emergencies on one day alone in the past week.

The team flew to Fife where a man was injured when he fell from height at a house renovation site.

He was quickly transferred by air ambulance to Ninewells suffering chest injuries.

The crew had no sooner signed off at Ninewells when they were tasked to a serious road traffic collision back in Fife on the A924.

SCAA paramedics worked at the scene with colleagues from the Scottish Ambulance Service, a special operations response team, Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service before airlifting a male casualty to Ninewells Trauma Centre.

That same day, an early evening accident on the slopes of Glenshee Ski Centre prompted an immediate response from SCAA.

The helicopter landed on the nursery slopes just minutes later where they worked with the local ski patrol before airlifting the injured snowboarder who had fractured her leg in a tumble. SCAA had the patient quickly in the care of Ninewells Hospital.

The past week has also seen SCAA fly to the island of Jura where an emergency medical transfer was required to get a man to urgent mainland hospital care.

A journey that would have taken hours and involved both ferry and road transport took SCAA just 35 minutes to get the patient safely to the Royal Alexandra Hospital at Paisley.

And £768.13 has been donated to SCAA from the Tyndrum 24 mid-winter Scottish trial lap race.

Longforgan Tuesday Club showed that every penny matters to SCAA when it held a “small change”collection recently and donated £33.62 to the life-saving charity.

Unwanted textiles donated to SCAA recycling bins continue to bring in muchneeded funds for the charity.

The latest emptying of the bins at Perth Airport and Perth College UHI raised £21.60 and £16.40 respectively.

Locally placed collecting cans being emptied and counted this week include: The Country Store, Kinloch Rannoch £56.04; Tower Bakery £37.66; Tummel Valley Holiday Park £25; Broxden Service Station £183.54 and Brian Reid and Son, Perth Airport £20.53.
