Revenge mission for fired up Luncarty

- MATTHEW GALLAGHER

Luncarty boss Robbie Holden insists his players will need no extra motivation for this weekend’s Downfield fixture.

The Dundee side netted victory in the reverse fixture earlier in the season and that means the Bleachers are fired up for revenge.

Despite having last week’s match called off due to a waterlogged pitch, Luncarty are feeling sharp and ready to continue their positive run of form.

Ahead of the North Super League away fixture, scheduled to kick-off at 2.30pm, Holden said:“Preparation has gone well.

“We had a friendly on Saturday which finished 0-0 with Hill of Beath and was very competitive.

“It gave an opportunity to get minutes in the legs of the full squad.

“The game this weekend needs no more incentive than Downfield beat us 2-0 at home in November, so the opportunity to put that right presents itself.

“We have been in good form since I took over and hopefully we continue the progression.

“The squad, minus the long term injuries, is down one this week with Stu Nicol out through suspension. Other than that we have everyone available.”

New Scone Thistle manager Paul Martin will take charge of his first competitive game for the club on Saturday.

And the Jags will face a stern test when they welcome current North Super League leaders Carnoustie Panmure to Farquharson Park.

Panmure have lost only one league match all season and, on the flipside, Scone are looking to turn the tide on a recent run of poor results. Martin, who has had over a week to familiarise himself with the squad, is determined to start with a solid performance.

In the North Premier League, Coupar Angus are on home duty against Brechin Vics while Blairgowrie travel to leaders East Craigie for an exciting top of the table clash.

Kick-offs are also penned in for 2.30pm.
