Liam Craig was sent off for the Perth side but they battled to earn a point

Perthshire Rugby’s club captain Ewan MacKessack-Leitch has paid tribute to Adam Pattinson.

Pattinson, a true club legend and a wonderful man, tragically passed away last Friday following a road traffic collision on the A912.

Shire’s fixture with Berwick was then postponed on the Saturday but both the first and second teams will return to action this weekend.

The first XV will welcome Murrayfield Wanderers to the North Inch in the National League Division 3.

And the seconds will play host to Bannockburn for a Caledonia Midlands Region League Division 3 game.

MacKessack-Leitch said: “It will be an emotional day on Saturday, we’ve both senior teams playing on the North Inch.

“There will be a minute’s silence before kick-off.

“We know he’ll be there with us in spirit on the pitch and, I know for sure, all the players wearing black and white at the weekend will be giving their all for each other and for Big Ads.”

Pattinson captained Perthshire for many years and was hugely respected at the club, throughout the region and across the country.

“It was terrible to hear the news about Adam, such a shock,” MacKessack-Leitch said. “He really was a big player within the team and club.

“I was so proud to follow him as club captain.

“The team and whole of Perthshire Rugby have rallied round and supported each other, we truly are a family.

“Furthermore, the many messages of condolence and support we’ve had from past players, other clubs and the wider rugby community has been remarkable. It goes to show the high regard there was for Adam.”

Last week chief executive of Perthshire Rugby Allan Brown said: “For many, many years Adam has been at the centre of our Perthshire Rugby family as a player, captain and club captain.

“We shall miss him greatly.”
