Over 900 up for health award

- RACHEL AMERY

Over 900 members of staff at NHS Tayside have been nominated for a top health board award.

Patients, relatives, members of the public and staff have been nominating the unsung heroes of the NHS since the end of January for a STAR (staff appreciation and recognition) award.

A total of 903 nominations have been made for individual members of staff, services and teams who have gone the extra mile in their role.

A multi-disciplinary panel will not judge all the shortlisted candidates and pick six finalists for each of the categories - there will then be a gold, silver and bronze winner announced for each category.

Lorna Birse-Stewart, chair of NHS Tayside, said: “We are delighted by the number of nominations that we have received and I would like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate someone.

“Last year we received over 750 nominations and it is wonderful that we have exceeded that target.

“Now in its fourth year, the STAR awards celebrate the individuals, teams and services working within NHS Tayside that deliver outstanding patient care or go the extra mile in their job.

“The range of nominations reflects the hard work and commitment of our staff who, every day, work to deliver high quality healthcare services to people all over Tayside.

“We know from feedback from those individuals and teams nominated that being recognised in this way is a tremendous boost to morale and very much appreciated.

“I would like to wish everyone the best of luck.”

The awards will be handed out at a ceremony in the Apex City Quay Hotel in May.
