Teen apprentices are celebrated
The achievements of three Perth teens were celebrated as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week.
Sixteen-year-old Louise, 17-year-old Jake and 17-year-old Brandon have secured their first jobs and are on their way to building a career thanks to locally-based charity Barnardo’s Works Service Tayside and work placements with local businesses.
The trio will start their modern apprenticeships, supported by Perth-based MKM Building Supplies and Chas Stewart Plumbing.
Barnardo’s Works is an employment, skills and training service, and partners with local businesses offering work and learning opportunities for young people.
Sheelagh Scott, service manager at Barnardo’s Works Tayside, said:“All three placements owe their success and future career opportunities to the mentoring and support provided by our partner employers MKM
Building Supplies and Chas Stewart Plumbing.
“Partnerships like this demonstrate the importance of employers opening their doors to young people, believing in them and enabling them to realise their full potential.”
Commenting on his apprenticeship at MKM, Jake said:“I’m really pleased to have been given this opportunity to do an apprenticeship with MKM in Perth; something I didn’t think would be possible a year ago.
“I now have an opportunity to prove myself and show my abilities which I would not have been able to do without this chance.
“I would encourage other young people to go to Barnardo’s Works for support in to jobs and apprenticeships”.
Speaking about also working with MKM, Louise said:“Getting a role within MKM in Perth is a fantastic career opportunity for me and one I intend to grab with both hands.
“It’s a great chance for me learn new things and develop myself within a fantastic team, I hope this is the start of my journey to somewhere I feel I can show my ability and grow into a valuable asset for MKM.
“Barnardo’s Works has given me this chance and I would like to thank them.”
