Call-off frustration back for Jeanfield

-

Ross Gunnion is pleased to have a higher degree of certainty that football will be played this weekend - due to Blackburn United’s artificial pitch.

The Jeanfield Swifts boss was again left frustrated midweek when a planned midweek home league game with Hill of Beath was postponed.

Another waterlogged pitch was the problem but the Perth side won’t have such issues when hitting the road to play Blackburn on Saturday.

Ahead of the East of Scotland Premier Division fixture, Gunnion said: “In this winter period, since December, it has been stop-start.

“Just when you think you are getting momentum, you come crashing back down with a game off.

“Little things slip the mind when you are not playing regularly and that led to the two goals we conceded against Crossgates last week.

“When we got the ball down and started attacking, we were miles ahead of Crossgates.

“At least this Saturday it will take a lot for the Blackburn game to be off.

“I actually like Blackburn and I think they are a good team. They get the ball down, pass it and have good players.

“They probably lack quality in the vital areas. But they play really well through the midfield and their left winger is a handy player.

“On their day, they are certainly a formidable team. We will need to be good again to take something from it.”

Wednesday night’s call-off will help one Swifts player.

Gunnion added: “We were going to be struggling with Aaron Whitehead for Wednesday, who had a knock.

“But hopefully he will be fine for Saturday and that is one of the positives to come out of the game being off midweek.

“He will have another couple of days to rest up and be fit for Saturday.”
