Perth Railway Boxing Club has high expectations for Luke Bibby as he gets set to shine at the Elite and Youth Scottish Championships.
The young talent will travel to the Ravenscraig Regional Sport Facility on Saturday to get his light welter 60-64kg campaign underway.
Martin Kerr of Renfrewshire is the opponent and Railway Boxing Club coach and secretary Stuart Campbell says Bibby is fully prepared.
“We have high expectations,” he told the Perthshire Advertiser this week. “The draw has been made and his opponent has a reasonable record.
“Luke knows a bit about him because he has seen him on the circuit. He is a comeforward fighter.
“But Luke is prepared for it and is feeling confident going into it, so it should be good.
“If he wins he will box again on Sunday, but we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. We just take it one round and one fight at a time.”
Bibby is no stranger to picking up titles and has been hard in training ahead of his latest crack at a national honour.
Campbell said: “He has been training hard and well. We had a quick start to the season and took him down to Coventry for a show.
“He boxed one of the top boys in England and just came up short by a split decision, but it was a 50/50. He will have a rematch.
“Luke is still training at the high performance centre with the Scottish coaching team. He is still waiting to get a vest.
“He has been training there, training with ourselves during the week and doing his strength and conditioning in Dundee.”
Jonathan Kermath of Blairgowrie’s Wellmeadow ABC will also be in action at the championships.
