Cut in services on road and rail

-

The transport network in Perth and Kinross has been reduced as the nation struggles to deal with the coronavirus outbreak.

Perth-based Stagecoach has rapidly reduced its bus timetable as emergency measures to combat COVID-19 accelerate.

And ScotRail services through the region were also altered on Monday.

Temporary changes to bus services in Perth and Kinross, as well as the rest of the east of Scotland area, were introduced yesterday (March 23) following new government advice around social contact and nonessential travel.

The majority of services in the region will now run on a Sunday service every day until further notice.

Stagecoach say the timetables have been carefully orchestrated to ensure that critical routes are maintained wherever possible.

Separately, the bus and coach industry is also engaging with the government in order to help ensure the long-term future of bus services are protected.

Douglas Robertson, Stagecoach East Scotland’s managing director, said: “We are working hard to best maintain essential services, safeguard jobs and ensure the long-term sustainability of a sector which is central to our economy and communities.

“We will continue to monitor the position, liaise closely with government and other authorities, and respond as appropriate to what is a dynamic situation.”

Customers are advised to email eastscotland.enquiries@ stagecoachbus.com or call Traveline Scotland on 0871 200 2233.

Meanwhile, ScotRail said it would be operating a“revised”timetable.

A spokesperson said:“This represents significant change from the normal daily timetable, with a specific focus to deliver an effective public transport service for key workers.

“Reducing the number of trains in service also creates opportunities for additional cleaning activities on trains and in depots, and allows more targeted cleaning at stations.

“If you’ve already booked your ticket, your service might have changed.

“Visit our website to check changes to services, find out about refunds, and read what we’re doing to keep trains and stations clean.”
