Drink driver smashed into four vehicles

-

A Perth woman smashed into two cars near her home and then failed to stop, the sheriff court was told.

And shortly afterwards, hit-andrun driver Amanda Ghekis was seen to strike and then mount the kerb at a roundabout near to the Asda superstore in Dunkeld Road.

The 46-year-old, of Kestrel Way, Muirton, was later traced - and found to have been behind the wheel with almost four-and-a-half times the legal booze limit.

She was disqualified from driving for two years and fined £1000 when she appeared in the dock on Wednesday.

In view of the high reading, sentence had been deferred for background reports.

Noting that she had only been driving unsupervised for four months when the incidents had taken place, Sheriff Lindsay Foulis ordered her to resit the extended driving test to ensure she was fit to get back on the road again.

She admitted driving in Kestrel Way and Dunkeld Road, Perth, on August 31 last year with 93 microgrammes of alcohol on her breath. The legal limit is 22.

She then collided with a BMW and a Vauxhall Astra, damaging all three vehicles.

But she failed to stop and give her name and address.

A not guilty plea was accepted to a third charge of failing to report the smash to the police within 24 hours.

Depute fiscal Robbie Brown told the court that police received a call that two vehicles had been struck about 8pm in Kestrel Way.

She was then spotted hitting the kerb in nearby Dunkeld Road.

Police arrived on the scene and noted “significant damage” to her vehicle.

“When officers spoke to her, not surprisingly she was smelling strongly of alcohol,” added the fiscal.

Solicitor Billy Somerville said she had a “good work ethic” and continued to hold down a job.

He asked the sheriff to consider a financial penalty.

Ghekis will pay the fine at the rate of £75 a month.
