A new mum has been recalling the moment she had to give birth on a family friend’s living room floor during the coronavirus lockdown.

Katie Roddis from Crieff went into Labour late at night on Monday, March 30.

By around 4.30pm the next day it was time for her to go into Ninewells to give birth.

But baby Olivia had other ideas, and it soon became obvious that Katie would not make it to Dundee in time.

So instead Katie, who turned 20 earlier this week, had to take a detour to the home of her mum’s friend

Linda Clunie before the paramedics turned up just in time.

“It all happened so quickly,”Katie said.

“I had contractions all day but my waters never broke until 4.30pm.

“We phoned the hospital and arranged for my dad to pick me up and get me to Ninewells.

“But we realised we were going to have to stop and phone an ambulance.

“Linda’s was the first house we came to. The paramedics arrived at 4.48pm and Olivia was born at 5.13pm.”

Katie was eventually taken to hospital that night after giving birth to Olivia, who weighed in at 6lb 13oz.

And although her parents Hazel and Lee Roddis were there at the time, they have not been able to hold Olivia since due to the coronavirus lockdown.

But Katie has had her partner Declan Scott (19) to help her out from their home in Crieff.

“It’s hard [because of the lockdown],”said Katie.

“There’s been lots of video calls and photos, but we can’t see anyone.

“It’s not really what we thought it would be like.

“But we’re really proud parents. Olivia is getting bigger every day.

“Many thanks to Linda Clunie and the paramedics for helping deliver our baby safely.”
