It’s good for me in a sense as I have a longer paternity leave Our lockdown baby has

-

Alex and Naomi Steelant with son Tay the midwives were so nice and they let him stay in the delivery room with us.

“But then he went home later that day and he was not allowed back in to see us.

“He was just allowed to pick me and Tay up the next day.”

Alex said he had to wait outside the hospital in his van for two or three hours when he went to collect Naomi and Tay.

“The baby had to go through his tests first before coming out so I had to wait,” he said.

“I see the point of it - you have to be careful. It was only a night which was fine.”

Naomi, who runs her own dog walking business called Off The Leash, was so thankful for all the help she received from the medical staff.

“I wanted to get the midwives thank you presents but I haven’t been able to go to the shops. I was going to get them an online card but I couldn’t because the site was overly busy and then stopped card orders.

“The main midwife was from Perth and she was amazing but I was not able to thank her properly.

“She made my experience so much better.

“They were all brilliant and I will get them something when lockdown is over.”

Due to the lockdown, no one in Naomi’s family has been able to come round to visit Tay since he was born nearly four weeks ago.

“My mum is a nurse as well and she came to drop something off at the door and stayed well back,”Naomi said.

“I said‘oh mum do you want to see him?’and she said‘no I can’t’then she went back in her car.

“Because my mum said she couldn’t let anything happened to us nobody has been in to visit.

“I sent photos in our family chat and videos but nobody has seen him outside of that.

“It has been hard at times because you just want your mum’s help.

“I am so thankful that Alex has been signed off work in a sense. That has been the only perk in this situation.

“Our neighbours have been really nice too.

“A few days after Tay was born our outside waste pipe had broken and we couldn’t get a plumber because we were on lockdown.

“So the neighbours on either side of us came over and told Alex what to do to fix it.

“I called Scottish Water and they couldn’t come out until the next day, so thanks to the neighbours we managed to get it sorted.

“Everybody has been helping. Our neighbours have been messaging us saying when they are going out to the shops and asking if there is anything we need and if we are alright.”

Alex revealed he restricts his trips to the shops to reduce the chances of coming into contact with COVID-19.
