Gospel church refusal reviewed
A religious group denied permission to build a new church near Perth last year has requested a group of councillors review the decision.
Perth Gospel Trust applied for consent to construct a rectangular single storey building capable of accommodating 50 members on a field east of Kinfauns last October.
But a council officer recommended the application be refused after raising concerns most worshippers would need to drive there and back to attend meetings.
The officer said in a report of handling:“The facility would have the capacity to accommodate 50 people which could be considered significant in the context of Kinfauns.
“The applicant’s planning statement suggests that the organisation needs a new facility close to its members to reduce travel demand and refers to the anticipated growth in membership within the wider Perth core area.
“Kinfauns is a hamlet with a small population and a relatively infrequent bus service.
“The accessibility of this site cannot be described as good, other than for those living locally in Kinfauns.
“The proposed parking provision of 29 spaces (including the overflow car park) also suggests that most visitors would be expected to arrive by car.
“The proposal is therefore not in a location considered to be sufficiently accessible in terms of the provision made for access by modes of transport other than the private car.”
However, the council’s website currently indicates there is now a “review in progress” concerning the application meaning the trust has appealed the decision.
The council’s local review body will be tasked to consider the trust’s appeal in due course.
