Virus fight for Saints player

- MATTHEW GALLAGHER

St Johnstone WFC defender Rhee Tweedie has warned others not to take the coronavirus lightly.

The 27-year-old centre-back, a primary school principal teacher, recently contracted the virus and has revealed how scary the experience was.

It started with hayfeverlike symptoms before escalating through the course of a week, before she was required to make a trip to the hospital.

While now on the mend, Tweedie continues to feel the effects of the virus and is calling on the people of Perth and beyond to remain vigilant.

“I was naive before and I was thinking, if you get it, you get it and it will just be like a cold,”Tweedie told the PA.

“My symptoms started and it was more just like hayfever. I had sore eyes and was starting to wake up with headaches.

“I’m normally really fit and healthy but I had no energy at all. Then I started to get the loss of taste, appetite and had really sore muscles.

“I was sleeping the whole time and had quite a sore chest. My chest started to get worse and I was getting breathless walking up and down the stairs.

“By the Friday I ended up at the hospital in Kirkcaldy because I was out of breath and in pain just sitting on my couch.

“I was first assessed over the phone and then had to go up to the COVID-19 centre.

“It has really opened my eyes to how serious it is.

The way it has affected me, even three and a half weeks later, I’m still out of breath and have a sore chest.

“The worrying thing is that some people don’t have the symptoms and don’t realise. It can be passed on so easily.”
